8/19 Coastal tour to the Cape of good hope.

This morning we boarded a bus and head south along the wester coast to the furthest southern point of Africa. The Cape of good hope. Cape point South Africa.

We moved south passed “millionaire mile” a stretch of luxury homes and condos. Past Hout Bay the only black community on the capes water. Our driver grew up there. Then Noordhoek, Kommet Jie, Scarborough past the Ostrich farms to cape point. We stopped for a group photo. On the way to the light house we say some of the largest Antelopes grazing on the mountainslopes.

We arrived at cape point. We took a shuttle up to the lighthouse then walked the 125 steps to the top for a look. It was beautiful. Minus all the graffiti. The lighthouse we walked to has not been in use since 1911 when a ship hit a reef just below and sunk. There was a new one down below.

Now we’re off to lunch and then to see the African penguins.

Lunch was at a cute little seaside restaurant. We had broccoli potatoes soup, grilled Hale with rice and vegetables. Chocolate mousse or ice cream for dessert. It was really good.

We walked a ways down a side street to the pelicans. They were absolutely adorable.

So many of them. So sweet. I had no idea there were penguins in Africa.

On the way back we stopped at the Botanical Gardens. We always love to visit the gardens wherever we visit. This one did not disappoint.

Our guide AB was quite knowledgeable and had allot to share regarding the flowers plants and the garden in general.

By the time we return to the hotel everyone was so tired. We rested and finally got up and went out to dinner at 8:30. We found a pizza place/Italian restaurant that was really good.

It was only a six minute walk from the restaurant but the front desk insisted we take a cab. He said he would come back and get us but never did. So a security guard went to the other hotel and sent us over a cab.

He got lost but we eventually made it back.

It was a long fun day.
