8/18 Tour of the city and Table mountain

It was hard to sleep without the sounds of the bush. I found comfort in Troy’s snoring. We were up bright and early and off to Table mountain National Park. We drove through various neighborhoods on the way. Kloofneck was very German. We got in a cable car and went way to the top. It was really high up with the most amazing view of capetown on one side and other small towns along the coast on the other. It was cold up there.

After we rode the cable car down the mountain we went to Bo Kaap. An interesting neighborhood with brightly colored houses. We stopped at a local shop for samosas and then went into a spice store.

Then we headed to Meriman square. Walked past the old Castle of good hope to the square In front of city hall where Nelson Mandela spoke to everyone after he was released from prison. Apparently the square was filled with thousands of people.

We then walked through a beautiful public garden called the Company’s garden. All with narrative about the city, the people and its politics.

We were dropped at the waterfront and set free to do as we wished. Troy and I walked into a market of food vendors. We had burgers fries and beer and listened to a local band.

After lunch we walked through several stores and along the warf then headed home for a rest. Later that evening we joined the Virginians for dinner at a very nice seafood restaurant. It was allot of fun. Lots of wine and Martinis flowed in Cape Town that night.
