8/15 Off to Victoria Falls

This morning I lay quietly in my bed looking out the tent listening to the Bush. Knowing how much goes on out there at night. The hippos come out of the water to eat. The lions hunt. The elephants tear the trees apart.

So much activity as we sleep. The sun came up and I realized it was the last cold morning in the tents. I will never forget my time here.

The people, the places, the new friends we’ve made.

After breakfast we drove through the Bush toThe airstrip. One last glimpse of this beautiful Reserve. After endless group shots we boarded our plane to Victoria Falls. We will be staying in hotels for the rest of our trip.

I’m anxious to see the Falls. One of the seven natural wonders of the world. We have arranged for a helicopter ride over the falls.

I’m also looking forward to doing some shopping in the craft markets there.

We landed and went through the Botswana customs quite swiftly the through immigration into Zimbabwe. We are on the bus driving through Zambezi National Park. Okavango conservation efforts. None of these parks are fenced because the animals have tribal roots.

There are more Elephants in these parks then there are supposed to be. 1 elephant per square kilometers. They have tried to move them out of the park and they have worked their way back here. When there is to many elephants the other animals starve.

Our guide Peter took us by his home to meet his wife Violet, his children, a nephew and a slew of rabbits he raises to eat.

We had a traditional African lunch at Chipala

Authentic Zimbabwe food. I took a little of everything as not to be rude. I ate salty sardines grub worms and some meat! there was entertainment and they came around so we could play with their instruments. It was a good time.

We checked into our hotel. The Sherewater Explorers Village. My least favorite room so far. Nice hotel but tiny room with no window. Claustrophobic feeling. Common area was nice. The food was good and staff very nice.

After check in. We went to see the Falls. OMG

Is really all I got. It was so beautiful. Not only the Falls but the gardens, the path from each look out point. It really was breathtaking.

We walked several miles along the Falls and back. Getting soaked along the way. We strolled back through the gardens encountering warthog, impala and lots of birds.

By the time we returned to the hotel everyone was worn out. We changed for dinner.

The dinner was good. But we were all very tired and ready for bed. Tomarrow will be another big day.
