8/13 Saguni Tented camps day two

We rose have tea and then we’re off at 6am. Game drive number 25.

Giraffes have the biggest heart in Africa. Not in the lovable way I thought he meant at first. In the physical Spence. They use the big heart to push the blood all the way to their head. They also have a special valve that reduces the blood flow to their head when they bend for a drink. They can only reach the water by doing the splits which makes them vulnerable to predators. Male giraffes have largely horns known as osocone. They use them to fight. They also have a smaller pair directly behind.

The males are generally bigger and darker.

We came across another lion pride eating a fresh kill. This time it was an impala.

Our evening drive we saw a pack of wild dogs.

As we were watching a few of them in ran a dozen or so puppies. Apparently the mother dog had just returns and regurgitated some food for them to eat. They went nuts.

And we watched as they all formed to go on a hunt. The way they spread out one way to one side then they spread out. The puppies in the middle then more females. There was at least twenty or more of them. They chase down their prey then pounce. They can kill and eat an impala in twenty minutes.

In the meantime we say a beautiful male kudo.

We followed them for awhile then went on. Shortly after the radio went nuts and we headed towards the commotion. Apparently a leopard took down an impala and the dogs took it away from him. The leopard was in the tree and the wild dogs were devouring the Impala. It was a feeding frenzy. So violent. We watched for a long time as they ripped it apart and ate it. The puppies were not there. They stay back with the alpha female. The other female eat and them come back and regurgitate the meat to feed the alpha female and the puppies.

The leopard tried a few times to get out of the tree but the hogs kept chasing it back up. I was right by the tree rooting for the leopards safe escape. The guide said the dogs would kill the leopard if the got it. We left but later heard the leopard got away.

There was 19 vehicles there watching. So much tourism in Africa. Everyone loves guts and gor.

The sundowners are always a special time. It’s the time both jeeps come together and share some time, A drink, a visit, watch the ball of fire drop into the horizon.

Back to camp for dinner. The food is good. Nothing fancy but I always find plenty to eat. After all the blood and death we saw today I wasn’t very hungry.

Everyone said it was the best day ever….I found it raw and disturbing.

Once again the sounds of the Bush at night was soothing to me. I was out like a light.
