8/12 Off to the Okavango Delta

Up and out early. Bussed to the airport for another small plane flight to the next camp. I’m sitting in a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan.

Preparing to land on another Dirt runway at the Kwhai river. The flight southwest across the Kalahari dessert is really something to see. I’ve never looked down from a plane to see herds of Elephants and giraffes grazing in the vast open spaces. It is hard to imagine.

I learned that a Delta is a body of water that does not end into a river or Ocean. It just flows until it doesn’t . I am anxious to see the different vegetation, birds and Animals here.

I think Troy is tired of the game drives and animals but I can’t get enough of it. I find this country and the wildlife just incredible. So much life….so peaceful and wild. Uncomplicated. If you don’t count all the killing to eat. Africa is a big meat place. I haven’t eaten any since we got here. There has been plenty of other good stuff to eat.

I simply cannot believe that we landed, loaded into a jeep and drove two minutes and saw a beautiful leopard. Just walking along. It was crazy. After all that time we spent looking for that leopard in Chobe. I got some great photos.

We proceeded on to our next Tented Camp Saguni lodge. There is a water tributary to the Kwhai river running by the lodge. It is filled with Hippos. And crocs I’m sure. It’s really beautiful.

We checked in, had our orientation and the lunch. We are now resting. The tents are like the first three places we stayed. I call it Glamping. I like them.

It’s quite hot so we stripped and took a cold shower to cool off. I’m getting to like these afternoon naps.

At 3:30 our afternoon game drive. Number 24. As much as I love them what I’d like to do is sit in the lounge drink a bottle of champagne and watch the water go by. Troy has resorted to earbuds and music during the drives. He tunes the constant chatter in the jeeps out altogether. There is always conversation going on. Sometimes I wonder if they are interested in the animals at all…Well we all Vacation in our own way. I just realize that Troy and I live in a pretty quiet world and we like it that way. I find that I miss so much of what is going on around me when I’m talking or stuck to a screen.

On our afternoon drive lots of Zebras and then we came across a sleeping leopard. In the tall grass.

I thought I had spotted another one but apparently it was a Serval. cat-very small rare to find fury spots big ears.

The day ended with another lovely sundowner. I have grown quite fond of these sunsets with cocktails in the Bush.

Back to the camp for predinner drinks, another nice dinner and off to our tents. The Bush noises comfort me as I dose off to sleep In the cozy beds.
